Three types of interpretation are available:

Simultaneous interpretation: the interpreter translates the speaker’s speech directly into a microphone that is connected to headphones.

This procedure, which is the most commonly used, requires the use of a booth provided for the interpreter.

Consecutive interpretation: the interpreter takes notes that serve as a guide in conveying the speaker’s message.

Whispered interpretation (chuchotage): the interpreter usually stands next to the participants and translates after each verbal exchange.
